Lotus Exige Wing Upgrade

Our client wanted to boost the performance of his Lotus Exige track car by upgrading to a high-performance rear wing from an Audi R8. However, this was more complex than a simple swap. The Audi wing’s mounting points are positioned much wider apart than those of the original Lotus wing. Seeking a solution, the client contacted Absolute3D to see how we could make this upgrade a reality.

Solution

We began by 3D scanning the Audi wing, capturing precise details of the mounting points and their spacing. Next, we removed the Lotus wing and 3D scanned the boot, ensuring we mapped the exact curvature and the mounting hole locations. Using CAD software, we engineered a custom mounting solution: custom-designed wing mounts and a reinforced boot plate. The boot plate was crafted to match the Lotus boot’s unique contour and aligns seamlessly with the existing mounting holes. The custom wing mounts were designed to perfectly match the Audi wing’s width requirements, ensuring a precise and secure fit.

Result

We manufactured the wing mounts from carbon fiber and the boot plate from aluminum 6061, finishing the look with a sleek black powder coat. The transformation is epic! This upgrade not only delivers striking aesthetics but also adds substantial downforce, providing a competitive edge on the track.
